Short answer

A small business website usually costs between a few hundred dollars (DIY builder) and several thousand dollars (custom design and build). On top of the build, plan for yearly costs: a domain, hosting or a site plan, and maintenance. With our studio on Fiverr, a custom landing page starts at $385, a Webflow site at $840 and a WordPress site at $1,440.

"How much does a website cost?" has no single answer, because a one-page site and a 50-page store are different products. This guide breaks the cost into the two parts that matter: the one-time build and the yearly running costs.

Website cost at a glance

OptionOne-time costBest for
DIY website builderYour time, plus the builder planVery small budgets, simple one-page sites
Freelancer or studio on FiverrAbout $400 to $5,000Small businesses that want a custom, professional site
Local or specialist agencyOften $5,000 and upLarger sites, complex integrations, ongoing retainers

These are typical ranges, not quotes. Scope, number of pages, copywriting, integrations and revisions move the price more than the platform does.

What drives the price of a website

  • Number of unique page layouts. Ten pages with the same layout cost less than five completely different ones.
  • Custom design vs template. Designing in Figma first costs more but gives a site that fits your brand.
  • CMS and blog. Collections, templates and filters add build time.
  • Ecommerce. Product pages, cart, checkout and payments add a lot of scope.
  • Animations and interactions. Nice to have, but they take time to build well.
  • Copywriting and images. If you supply them, the price goes down.

Yearly running costs

WordPress hostingFrom a few dollars a month for shared hosting to $35+ a month for managed hosting

How to keep the cost under control

  1. Write down the pages you need before you ask for quotes.
  2. Prepare your logo, copy and images, or budget for them separately.
  3. Ask whether the price includes design, development, responsive layouts and a CMS.
  4. Compare yearly costs, not only the build price.
