Logo sizes for web, social and print

Logo sizes for web, social and print
Short answer

There is no single standard logo size. Keep a vector master and export each size from it: a website header logo usually displays 40 to 80 px tall (export SVG or PNG at 2x), favicons at 16, 32 and 48 px, an Apple touch icon at 180 x 180 px, and social profile images at 400 x 400 px or larger.

"What size should my logo be?" depends on where it is used. The right approach is one vector master file and a set of exports for each place. Here are the sizes we use for client logo packages.

Website logo sizes

UseSizeFormat
Header logoUsually 40 to 80 px tall on screenSVG, or PNG exported at 2x the display size
Footer logoUsually smaller than the headerSVG or PNG at 2x
Favicon16 x 16, 32 x 32 and 48 x 48 pxICO or PNG, from the icon version of the logo
Apple touch icon180 x 180 pxPNG with a solid background
Android / web app icons192 x 192 and 512 x 512 pxPNG
Open Graph share image1200 x 630 pxPNG or JPG, logo placed inside the image

Width depends on the shape of the logo: a wide wordmark at 48 px tall can be 200 px or more wide. Use SVG wherever you can, because it stays sharp on every screen and is tiny in file size.

Social media logo sizes

PlatformProfile image upload sizeNotes
Instagram320 x 320 px or largerShown as a circle
FacebookAt least 320 x 320 pxShown as a circle
LinkedIn company page400 x 400 pxSquare
X (Twitter)400 x 400 pxShown as a circle
YouTube800 x 800 pxShown as a circle

Platforms change their layouts often, so check the platform’s help page before a big launch. Uploading a larger square image, such as 1000 x 1000 px, is a safe default. For circles, use the icon version of the logo with padding so nothing gets cut off.

Email signature logo size

Keep it small: around 300 px wide or less and about 100 px tall, as a PNG or JPG. Many email clients block or resize large images, and SVG is not reliably supported in email.

Print logo sizes

Print uses physical size, not pixels. Always send a vector file (PDF, EPS or AI), so the printer can scale it to any size. If you must send a raster file, export it at 300 PPI at the final print size.

Set a minimum size

Every logo has a size below which it stops being readable. Define it in your brand guidelines, for example "never smaller than 24 px tall on screen or 15 mm wide in print", and use the icon-only version below that. Our brand guidelines template includes this rule.

From the studio: we deliver every logo with horizontal, stacked and icon-only versions, because one layout never fits every size from favicon to billboard.
