I'll share my freelance journey with complete transparency, reveal the real meaning of freelancing, and hopefully inspire future freelancers along the way.
I was an 18-year-old amateur, self-taught and determined to earn money online 💻 I discovered design contest websites and started learning Adobe Illustrator on my own. It was a tough beginning. It took me six months to win my first contest and earn $200. But for me, it wasn’t just about the money. It was about the challenge and the fun 🎨
I created my Fiverr profile and published my first gig. Since I already had some experience with Adobe Illustrator, I decided to offer logo vectorization for $5. For those who don’t know, that means you send me an image of your logo, and I recreate it exactly as a clean vector, then deliver the full files.
Fun fact: back then, the maximum price for a gig was $5 😅I got my first order super fast. Why? Because I offered a lot for just $5. Sometimes I’d get logos that took me 3 to 4 hours to recreate, and I still delivered everything within 24 hours. Crazy, right?
I can’t remember the exact numbers, but I quickly reached around $1–2k per month during those first two years.
I decided to hire my sister and a friend to help me out and guess what, they’re still part of my team today! Around that time, I also created a few more gigs, like business card design and logo design.
I still remember one wild day when I got hit with 45 orders in a single day... and yep, the delivery time was still set to 24 hours 😅
I brought on one or two more people to the team. Fiverr was booming, and so was our gig. That year alone, we completed 5,267 orders! Most of them were small, around $35 each, but the volume kept us busy and the momentum kept growing 💪
To be honest, at that point I thought I was the best designer in the world 😄 I put a lot of pressure on myself, thinking no one could do the work better than me. But with experience over the years, I learned something important... If you trust the right people and surround yourself with quality talent, they can perform just as well, and sometimes even better.
2018 was really similar to past year around $190K
Things got even better. I hired 2–3 more people to help manage everything, and at that point, we had a small team of 5–6 working together in our in-house office. It finally felt like a real design agency not just me and my PC anymore 😄
During this time, we expanded our services from only creating logos to also offering website design, web development, and animation. With this, we now offer an almost complete solution for our customers.
During this time, we moved into a bigger office because our team had grown to 10 people. As you can see in the chart, we reached up to $480K in revenue. What’s really interesting is that compared to 2017, we completed around 2,000 fewer orders, earned $400K more, and had even fewer cancellations. We truly invested a lot into quality and performance. We weren't just working harder, we were working smarter.
In late 2023, we finally decided to apply for Fiverr Pro  and we got accepted! It was a big milestone for us and felt like recognition for everything we had built over the years.
We are now a team of 15, all working in-house. One of our biggest challenges has been finding creative talent, since the education system in our local community is honestly terrible. To help change that, we launched our own education program, teaching everything from graphic design to web development and freelancing. Some of the people who completed our courses are now part of our team, which is something we're really proud of.
From 2017 to 2025, we’ve helped multiple charity organizations, changed offices four times, earned over $3.4 million on Fiverr, and failed more than 10 times trying to launch our own products. But every failure taught us something new and pushed us forward.
